Introduction

Community Medicine is a branch of medicine that focuses on the health and well- being of population rather than individuals. It encompasses a broad range of topics including epidemiology, biostatistics, health promotion, disease prevention, environment, occupational health, mental health as well as the socio- cultural determinants of health.

Vision:

To prepare medical students as competent first level physicians suited to cater need of community in Indian context.

Aim:

To improve population health through disease prevention, health promotion and public health education, while addressing social determinants of health and shaping effective health programs and policies. With this aim in mind, Family Adoption Programme, Integrated teaching, Skill development, AETCOM and Self-Directed Learning have been introduced with more focus on family health care and to achieve health related Sustainable Development Goals.

Objectives:
  • Disease prevention: Implement strategies for prevention and control of disease.
  • Health promotion: Encourage healthy lifestyle and promote public awareness of health issues.
  • Epidemiological surveillance: Collection, compilation, analysis, interpretation of data and monitor disease trends to guide interventions.
  • Health education and effective communication: Educate and communicate effectively with the communities about healthy practices and preventive measures.
  • Digital health innovation: Leverage technology, telemedicine, and mobile helth apps to improve healthcare accessibility.
  • Health equity: Focus on reducing health disparities by ensuring equal access of healthcare facilities to different socio- economic groups.
  • Global health preparedness: Strengthen community readiness for global health threats such as pandemics and climate change.
  • Research: Conduct research on public health issues to develop evidence- based solutions.
